Product Reviews

This is possibly the best juicer on the market. I have owned mine for twenty-seven (27) years! I have never had a problem with it, and it has aided me in improving my health. I beg to differ with the other reviewer, as I juice wheatgrass fairly often, with no trouble.

This is the only juicer I’ve used, so I don’t speak from experience with other brands. Nevertheless, I am very satisfied with this juicer. It is easy to assemble and simple to use. The clean-up is the only negative aspect, but you’ll find that with any juicer (I believe). I recommend it.

I’ve owned this juicer for 8 years, and have never had a problem. Of course, I only juice apples, oranges, carrots, grapefruit, ginger, and beets, so I do not know how stuff like spinach, broccoli, wheatgrass, and the sort turn out. Clean-up involves brushing off 5 parts, which takes about one minute. Just buy a nylon bristle brush, make sure to use only warm water (never hot so as not to mis-shape the pieces), and clean immediately after use. To give you an idea of how economical this machine is, and juicing in general: yesterday, i bought an 18 pound bag of Texas Rio Red grapefruit for $6. There were 21 grapefruit, large and very juicy. I used 4 this morning to make three large beer mug-size glasses. That is 29 cents times 4, for a total of $1.20, approximately. $1.20 divided by 3 glasses is 40 cents. Very good compared to $3 or $4 at a juice shop, where they are normally adding apple juice from concentrate or ice. I just hope mine goes 27 years like the other reviewer’s.

    Game Reviews

Power Pro is the first american version of japan’s top baseball game. At first glance I’m sure a lot of you think this is a stupid kiddie game and a waste of time. Well “hardcore” gamers and casual fans alike will love this game and I’ll break it down for noth camps. Casual Gamers: Ever wanted an indepth wii sports baseball? Want to create yuor own Mii team to play against the yankees? Now you can. With it’s exclusive Mii games you can swing the wii mote just like a bat and take on the best of the MLB with your family and friends. Assign positions and play in actual mlb parks for a full 9 inning game. This will take family fun night to a new level as the whole family can brag aobut beating the yankees or lie about losing to the Devil Rays. Hardcore Baseball fans: This is the best baseball simulator ever. That’s right. The level of detail is amazing. Also for those of you against motion controls you can use a classic controler, gamecube controller, or just nunchuck and wiimote. Success mode is a full rpg where you are a college prospect that must balance practice, school work, dating, and a job all while trying to beocme team captaina nd get a spot on a major league team. Every action raising your stas and makes you into a future hall of famer. Those of us who prefer a season/manager mode then you are in luck as this is probablly the best season mode I have ever seen. This game has so much more that I can’t do justice describing it. This game is the perfect game to get any baseball fan form your 5 year old who loves swinging a bat to the most cynical Yankee fan. This is my highest recomendation for any wii game. Forget the Bigs, this is where the heart and soul of baseball cna be found.

MLB Power Pros is going to be one of those games that you either give a chance or completely overlook it; most people are going to overlook it due to the look and visual style, which is a HUGE mistake. For those looking for a hardcore baseball sim - look no further. For those looking for a pick-up and play with friends or for a quick exhibition game - look no further. Hardcore and casual gamers alike will enjoy this title. Originally a Japanese Baseball hit game, it’s about time that American gamers get to savor exactly what our Asian friends have been raving about for so long! I believe that whenever a Japanese sensation gets imported over to American gamers, it should be given a chance. Simply because the Japanese have been doing this for a lot longer than we have, and in my opinion have great taste in video games and their substance. There are quite a few modes that deliver something for everyone. From a quick exhibition game (featuring all MLB teams and the All-Star teams), to a Season mode in which you pick your team and lead them all the way to the World Series, including managing, trading, and salary caps, and also the much heralded “Success” mode; which is like an RPG in which you lead your player through 3 years of college at a mediocre University. There are many ways to develop your player, from taking part time jobs, making girlfriends, becoming an Ace on your pitching rotation and of course, deciding whether or not to study for classes. This mode ALONE demands that you purchase this game - any RPG fan will fall in love with this mode. For those who purchase the Wii version, never fear, you can use the Wii’s unique motion control to swing, field and pitch in the Home Run Derby mode and the Exhibition mode. The Wii motion controls can not be used in Success, Season or League mode, however. You also can complete specific objectives throughout the season mode and home run derby and gain “points” in order to purchase new equipment for your team so that practices go better in “Season” mode. All in all, the 39.99 price tag for this game is a bargain. Not only are you getting the best, most in-depth Baseball Simulation to date (including all ballparks, all teams and all the MLB players, including most AAA players), you are also getting a baseball-dating-life RPG too. I can’t make you buy this game, but I can certainly tell you that if you pass this title up, whether you are a hardcore MLB fan, or a casual gamer, you are missing one of the best titles of the year.

This is a solid baseball game. At first I wondered if it was just going to be a cutesy baseball game given the look of the characters but the game has very indepth game play. The only complaints I would have with this game is that once you are into the higher innings if the opposing pitcher is considered “excellent” it seems he can’t throw a bad pitch. Also there there seems to be an ease for the computer to get double plays. And can you really make money? Not if you are the Yankees. Minor picky stuff that is probably mostly user error :) but of note as this is a game that you can make very difficult as you trade players, train players and even play through a whole season. If you are a fan of classic in depth baseball games then this is the first I have seen in a while so you should definitely pick up a copy!

One of the best MLB games out in my opinion, MLB Power Pros has a variety of features such as baseball cards, road to the majors, and create your own dream team! I highly recommend this game

A solid A+! This is the most fun I’ve had playing a sports video game since the old Ken Griffey Jr. game on the N64 counsel. And the best thing about it is its multiple modes make it enjoyable for all different levels of gamers. It’s simpler wii sports-esqe mode makes for great out of the box playability and good fun for the more casual gamers, and makes for a decent party game. Meanwhile, the more complex season and exhibition modes provide a remarkably in depth baseball game that lets you control just about every aspect of a team you could imagine. The detail they put into these modes is amazing. Don’t be fooled by the kiddie graphics, this is a true baseball game that any fan of the sport will enjoy. And if that’s not enough, they throw the delightfully quirky success mode, which allows you to control the fate of a college player. This mode is good fun and is far more addictive than one would expect. Over all it’s a great game and I would recommend it to any baseball fan.

    Movie Reviews

Director Taylor Hackford doesn’t make a lot of mistakes. But he points out one in the deleted scenes area of this disc. When I saw it back in 1984, I didn’t understand what the heck Jeff Bridges was doing flying around Mexico to throw James Woods off the train while Rachel Ward went to the Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza (an awesome spot I visited back in 1995, by the way). The deleted scene helps make this clear and really enhanced my enjoyment of the film. Whether you like the movie or not, the chance to see the seaside ruins of Tulum and the astronomical temple of Chichen Itza is worth it. No one apparently had been allowed to film there before. And Jane Greer is great as the quietly wicked mother of Ms. Ward.

In “Against All Odds”, Jeff Bridges plays an aging football player, Terry Brogan, who is released from the LA Outlaws after he injures his shoulder. He blew millions of dollars and is left with nothing more than a Porsche that isn’t even paid for. What’s the poor guy to do? Work for a slimeball named Jake Wise (played flawlessly by James Woods…of course) and stalk the guy’s ex-girlfriend (Rachel Ward). Terry ends up falling in love with Jake’s girlfriend and tries to protect her from her ex. If you respect free-spending, point shaving athletes who treat women like dirt then you will enjoy Bridges’ character. I find it hard to empathize with him and I really didn’t care if he got the girl in the end or not. “Against All Odds” is yet another flick with a protagonist who is difficult to care about. Terry was offered a coaching job after his football career had ended and he should’ve jumped at the chance instead of becoming involved with shady activities. Then maybe the viewer would actually care about what happens to him.

Expert opinion says that since the advent of color film, a good contemporary noir film is an L.A. noir film; that seems to be largely so, except then you’ve got “Body Heat,” set in Florida. Be that as it may, “Against All Odds” is an LA noir film: it profits from the unique atmosphere of Los Angeles, the sinister corruption behind the sunny smile; the reality of arid desert behind the wastefully-watered green lawn. And most particularly, the parched, penned-up ill-respected Los Angeles River that features in Roman Polansky’s mythic “Chinatown, and “in “The Narrows,” one of Michael Connelly’s recent books. The river also, of course, features in that well-known teenage film noir,”Grease,” in which John Travolta and his all-singing, all-dancing fool friends stage their drag race in the river’s concreted bed, graced by only the merest trickle of water. The Los Angeles River: Ignored until it rampages.“Against All Odds” is a loose 1980’s remake of Robert Mitchum’s film noir, “Out of the Past.” Jane Greer. femme fatale of the earlier film, plays mother to Rachel Ward, this film’s femme fatale. Richard Widmark, important player in many earlier films noir, is on hand here too, in a small but critically important part. The plot is set in motion when Jake Wise,(James Woods), well-connected nightclub owner and man of many parts, sets his old friend, used-up former pro football player Terry Brogan (Jeff Bridges), to find and return his runaway girlfriend Jessie Wyler (Rachel Ward), hiding somewhere in Mexico. For starters, Mexico, Bridges and Ward have never looked hotter, the Ward-Bridges sex scenes are too darn hot, and the seemingly mandatory confusing LA real estate corruption subplot doesn’t stop the main story line cold too often. The film was ably directed by Taylor Hackford, and the three principals carry their roles. There’s also a flavorful supporting cast: Swoosie Kurtz, Saul Rubinek, Alex Karras, Dorian Harewood. “Against All Odds” is a bit dated, stuck in the ’80’s, and it’s not the greatest noir story ever told, but it offers a lot of visual heat. It also delivers on the emotional heat meter, at least to me: true to noir conventions, nobody gets what they want, surely not Terry Brogan, who realizes, belatedly, that Jessie Wyler is literally too hot for him to handle, and he’s going to have to leave her to her rich, powerful mother. Yes, it’s been done before, possibly better, but “Against All Odds” stands and delivers on its own, and is worth a look-see.
